The Valley Amateur Radio Association (VARA) is in the Waynesboro/Staunton/Augusta County area and is dedicated to radio service in our community. We provide radio communication when possible in times of emergency, during emergency preparedness drills and for public events where radio communications can facilitate the safety of the general public. VARA is dedicated to further the exchange of information and cooperation between members, to promote radio knowledge, fraternalism and individual operating efficiency, and to conduct club programs and activities as to advance the general interest, knowledge and welfare of amateur radio in the community.
Our big events are Field Day in June and a variety of bicycle, running and motorcycle events in the Fall providing communications with the organizers and emergency personnel where there is no cellular service. See our Calendar and Field Day pages for for more information.
For those who wish to meet in person, we meet at Armstrong’s Restaurant on Rt 11 (Lee Highway) in Verona. We will have our own private, quiet room for the meeting, which will start at 7:00 PM. The room can accommodate 50 attendees comfortably. The Restaurant will be prepared for diners at 6:00 PM. Armstrong’s does not take Credit Cards.
The Valley Amateur Radio Association offers a hybrid meeting format using via Zoom as long as we have enough interest. The Zoom meeting will start at 6:45 or sooner using this Zoom Link . This link will work with computers, tablets and smartphones. If you have never used Zoom before, click on the link and you will be prompted to install the Zoom application on your device. You may want to give yourself time before the meeting to get up and running. Due to the nature of the presentations, the experience will not be a high or engaging vs. being there in-person.
